The fact that someone would feel they had to ask and entertain the question of whether or not someone who is pursuing a career in the academy should blog is thoroughly depressing.

You are awarer that some guys can fuck themselves. I’ve seen the porno.
This is so 2002. I remember coming across something similar in the Chronicle about blogging back then. There was a discussion of the same ‘concerns’ that an academic with a blog would be more likely to badmouth their employer/colleagues and air departmental dirty laundry online, etc. I’m sure there are people out there who are somewhat less than circumspect, but come on. The fear of bloggers seems little more than a generalized fear of and inability to cope with technology.
Ooh! Airing dirty laundry! I never thought of that!
